Meral Özçınar was born in Manisa in 1975. After finishing primary, secondary and high schools in İzmir, she graduated from Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Cinema and Television. She took Master of Science degree at the same faculty in 2005 and was entitled to receive PhD in 2010. In 2005, Özçınar began to work as an academic in Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. She has been working in Uşak University since 2012. She has published 2 books named ‘Philosophical Background of Turkish Cinema’ and ‘In Between’, numerous papers in national and international academic journals and book chapters.
In addition to her academic works, she received the best documentary award for “Frames from Life Photo Romance” in Ankara film festival. “Migration to Sun” and “The Wedding” were screened in national and international festivals. Çanakkale Documentary Workshop was organized in collaboration with Mode Istanbul and the films produced in that workshop were qualified for award nominee as finalist in international documentary festivals. She directed the Video-Art project called “There’s a Letter from Çanakkale”. Poject Film was screened in Germany and Turkey.
